Calling artists of all ages!
Submit your artwork or photography for a chance for your work to be featured in the Central Library lobby throughout February as part of the Library’s Black Brilliance: A Celebration of Art, Culture, and Community!
There’s no theme— send us anything that you are proud of that you would like the opportunity to share with your community.
Submit your work to us by January 27th, 2025.
Submission Guidelines:
- You may submit only ONE (1) digital art, painting, or photography piece for consideration.
- Please do not submit anything larger than 24 x 36 inches.
- Artists must self-identify as Black (e.g. African, American, Canadian, Caribbean).
- Applicants must be a resident of Durham Region. Library cards are not required to submit.
- Please include a brief third-person biography (100 words maximum) along with your submission; feel free to include any information you’d like to be shared!
Selection Process:
- Submissions will be reviewed and chosen by Library staff.
- Not all submissions will be accepted and displayed.
- If your piece is selected, the Library is not responsible for any damage to the art/photography pieces. Selected artists may be asked to provide their own easel to display their work.
Selected art and photography pieces will be on display from Monday, February 3 – Friday, February 28. Pieces must be picked up the week of March 3rd.
By submitting to the Pickering Public Library’s Black Brilliance: A Celebration of Art, Culture, and Community, you consent to having your work temporarily featured in the Central Library lobby, on our website and on social media. All artists retain the rights to their work, accepted or otherwise.
We will not accept any work that in any way inflicts harm upon marginalized groups. Do not submit work that is racist, homophobic, misogynistic, ableist, ageist, or transphobic, nor any blood and gore as it will be rejected immediately.
