Pickering Public Library Launches “Ovee” – A New Mobile Outreach Vehicle, Bringing Library Services to Every Corner of the Community

Pickering, ON – September 23, 2024. – Pickering Public Library is excited to announce the launch of its new outreach vehicle, "Ovee," designed to bring sought-out library services directly to residents across Pickering. With an emphasis on reaching those in underserved areas or far from library branches, this innovative addition to the library's services will ensure everyone in the community has access to books, movies, and a variety of other resources, regardless of their location.

The community is invited to meet Ovee and join Pickering Public Library staff for a special ribbon-cutting event to celebrate Ovee's launch on September 28, 2024, at Rick Johnson Memorial Park from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. At this family-friendly event, residents will get to tour Ovee, sign up for a library card, enjoy free activities, and meet community partners who may collaborate with staff at future Ovee stops.

Ovee, pronounced "OH-VEE," features a custom-built interior tailored to meet the needs of Pickering's diverse population. Whether you’re looking to browse the latest bestsellers, borrow movies for a cozy night in, or pick up a hold you’ve placed online, Ovee has you covered. The vehicle will make scheduled stops throughout the week, delivering library services to neighbourhoods across the city.

In addition to offering in-person browsing and borrowing, Ovee will also provide residents the convenience of having requested holds delivered to a scheduled stop of their choice. This initiative is part of Pickering Public Library's ongoing commitment to accessibility, ensuring that all residents can enjoy the full range of library services. The services offered on board Ovee, as well as the scheduled stops, have all been responsively determined based on community input throughout several in-library and online feedback opportunities.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Ovee to the community,” said Jackie Flowers, CEO of Pickering Public Library. “This new outreach vehicle represents our dedication to making library resources accessible to everyone, no matter where they are in Pickering. We can’t wait for residents to experience all that Ovee has to offer.”
