Pickering Public Library receives TDSRC award

PICKERING, ON (June 17, 2021) – The Pickering Public Library (PPL) was awarded a 2020 TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC) Library Award at this year`s virtual Manitoba Library Association-Saskatchewan Library Association Joint Conference!

Out of all participating Canadian libraries, PPL received the third-place prize of $2,000. This monetary award will go toward enhancing the Library`s children`s programming.

TDSRC is Canada`s largest, bilingual summer reading program for children of all interests and abilities. Children (and their caregivers) can participate by exploring recommended reads, reading online, tracking readings, participating in activities, writing book reviews, and more.

Despite last year`s TDSRC being delivered during such unprecedented times, the Library was able to get creative and engage with clients. Some highlights included:

  • 308 participants registered
  • hosted a curbside kick-off event to distribute children`s books and information on the program (450 books were distributed)
  • successfully introduced virtual one-on-one reporting, with over 180 children who reported on what they had read to staff
  • delivered weekly video shout-outs on Facebook to children who reported reading that week

PPL is a proud supporter of the TDSRC, delivering it each year for clients and hosting a variety of activities throughout the summer in celebration.

Registration for this year`s TDSRC begins June 30. Please visit pickeringlibrary.ca for more details.
