Renewals and Returns FAQs

  • General Questions

    Items can be renewed online, in-person, over the phone, or through the Pickering Library App available for iPhone and Android.

    To renew online, log in to your account. On the top menu, click Checked Out. Find the title(s) you wish to renew. Click the Renew button below the item. A pop-up message will let you know if your renewal was successful.

    To renew an item over the phone, please have your library card number handy.

    Book Club Sets must be returned in person to staff (not through the drop-box) at any Pickering Library branch. The set is not considered returned unless the bag and all of the contents are returned to the Library.

    Most items can be renewed up to 4 times unless a hold request has been placed on the item. An email notification letting you know whether your item was renewed or not will be sent 3 days before the item's due date. If the item was successfully renewed, the new due date will be listed.

    The Library has eliminated late fees. However, items that are more than a month overdue will go to Lost and you will be charged the cost of the item plus a processing fee. 

    You will receive an email stating which items have been successfully renewed and their new due dates. You will need to check the list to see if all your items due on that day were renewed.  If no items are renewed you will not receive an email.

    Always check your library account online for up-to-date due dates and information.

    Notification of renewals is only available through email. Contact library staff if you wish to switch to email notices.

    Automatic renewals is part of the integrated library system. If you do not wish to receive email notification about autorenewals, please contact the library and staff can update your account to opt out of autorenewal notifications.

    Longer checkout periods are available for some titles. Please ask about vacation loans when checking out your materials.

    To renew/return an audio/eBook, open the relevant app and navigate to your Checked Out/Loans/Current shelf. There will be a Renew button and a Return button available.
